Meet our director: Leann Wages From the time I was 16, my dream was to be in the cosmetology industry. I didn’t get the chance until almost sixteen years later. I graduated from Phagans’ Newport Academy of Cosmetology Careers in 2001 with a certificate in esthetics and hair design. I had already purchased my own salon before I graduated and went straight to work. Phagans’ called me and asked me to do substitute work and it soon became apparent that the education part of this business was my passion. In 2003 I went back to school and received my certificate in nail technology and received my educator’s license for the state of Oregon. In 2004 I sold my salon and became a full time educator. I also received the “Educator of the Year” award for 2004. In 2005 personal tragedy struck and I had to take a break from my career. I missed it everyday and was surprised and excited, when in 2007, I was asked to come back. I I returned to work in April of 2007 and not a day goes by that I am not thankful. I was promoted to Director in June of 2007 and everyday is an adventure. I look forward to a life time career with Phagans’ and I always enjoy sharing my story with students to show them all the different choices this career can offer them.
