Debbie Patrick

Meet our director: Tracy Straub

After graduating from Ashland High School in 1985, Tracy Straub attended Phagans' Beauty College in Corvallis, Oregon. She received a great foundation with Pivot Point's Scientific Approach to Hair Design, Wella Color, Aveda Skin Care and Solar Nails.

She returned to Southern Oregon to complete her cosmetology training and transferred to Medford Beauty School (now Phagans' Medford Beauty School). While there, she was introduced to Clairol Color, OPI acrylic and numerous new techniques from the Medford teaching staff. She also discovered her passion, teaching the techniques she had learned from her Corvallis educators.

In the fall of 1987, Karen Dieckman purchased Medford Beauty School. Tracy was lucky to have Ms. Dieckman and a third group of educators in her life. These lifelong mentors introduced Tracy to the profession of teaching. After completing 2300 hours in Cosmetology, she was asked to begin teacher's training with the prospect of becoming a full time Phagans' educator.

Tracy completed her 1000 hour cadet teacher's training and on October 1, 1988 started her career with Phagans'. She was given the freshman class to teach and loved working with the new students. She developed interactive academic theory classes. Tracy, along with Debbie Patrick, were the first recipients of the Phagans' Educator of the Year award a the first Phagans' Annual Meeting in 1990.

Tracy was also promoted to assistant manager at Phagans' Medford Beauty School in 1990. Attending trade shows, teacher's trainings, financial aid workshops and director's meetings prepared her for her next step. In 1992 she was offered the Directorship of the Medford school. Tracy supervised a staff of seven educators and learned her passion was the education side of the industry. She was helpful in implementing the curriculum Phagans' uses today.

Tracy attends numerous workshops each year. She is a regular attendee of Cosmetology Educators of America and the American Association of Cosmetology Schools seminars. She has attended NACCAS accreditation trainings and her campus holds the distinct honor of a perfect accreditation evaluation with no limitations. Her passion continues to in be the cosmetology field. She has stayed current by attending trade shows up and down the West Coast. Hair World is the largest trade show she has attended to date.

Tracy stepped down as director of the Medford campus in 1993 to work part time after the birth of her children, but in 2000 she returned to work full time. She transferred to the Grants Pass campus where she is the Director of Education. After her children, the Grants Pass Campus is her proudest accomplishment.
